At the annual meeting of the National Athletic Trainers' Association held in New Orleans in June, Dr. McGrath was presented with the Journal of Athletic Training's Clint Thompson Award for Clinical Advancement for his paper "Supporting the Student-Athlete's Return to the Classroom After a Sport-Related Concussion." This paper, which appeared in the Journal in the fall of 2010, provides an overview for educators of the problems faced by many students as they try to continue their academic work after suffering a concussion. It outlines the 5-step program that Dr. McGrath has developed and lectured widely on, and describes specific accommodations that can be used for individual students to support them in keeping up with academic work as best they can while in recovery.
